Obituary of Leonard Karhu

Leonard "Len" J. Karhu, 93, died Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at his home in Salisbury. Born in Warren, Ohio he was the son of the late Ida K. Karhu and Jack Karhu. He lived in Pittsburgh, PA many years and retired as a Field Agent for the Internal Revenue Service. He served in the US Army Air Corp during World War II. He and his first wife, Mary retired to Ocean City, where they enjoyed boating and making new friends. Len was a past commander of the Ocean City Power Squadron, a member of the Ocean City American Legion, the Salisbury Elks, the Salisbury Cotillion and the Laurel Cotillion. He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Mildred "Millie" Ellis Karhu; daughter, Nancy Bowman and her husband, Dr. Jeffrey Bowman of Frederick, MD; son, Bruce Karhu and wife, Christine of Wexford, PA; daughter, Susan Karhu of Salisbury; step-daughters: Linda A. Davis and her husband, Bill of Salisbury, Peggy Williams of Delmar, MD and Paula Bruce of Fruitland; 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren and a sister, Savel Cravens of Edgewater, MD. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Montgomery Karhu. A memorial service will be held, Saturday, October 9, 2010 at 12 noon at the Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Thomas W. Hurley will officiate.
