Obituary of Florence Avis

HEBRON — Florence Lorraine Avis, 83, of Hebron died Saturday, Oct. 9, 2010, at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury. Born in Union City, N.J., she was a daughter of the late Roger Morris Ayers and Edna Zeluff Ayers. Although she worked for several local businesses including First Shore Federal, Taylor Lawn Care and most recently Atlantic Psychological Practice PA, the majority of her life was devoted to service for the Baha'I Faith. She spent nearly 25 years in the Holy Land and her teaching travels took her to many places in the world. She was a mentor and big sister to youth from Wicomico County and served on the Hebron Planning Commission. She is survived by two daughters, Randa Avis Wilbur of Grayslake , Ill., and Robin L. Killion of Anderson, Mo.; four grandchildren, Shawn, Jennifer, Ian and Adam; seven great-grandchildren, Robin Lynn, Garrett, Savannah, Emily, Connor, Scarlett and Holden; one great-great-grandchild, Lily; three brothers, Roger Ayers of Salisbury, Ronald Ayers of Hebron and Russell Ayers of Washington, D.C.; and a sister, Carolyn Sisk of Columbia, Md.. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Edna Lucille Taylor. A memorial service will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury. A committal service was held Saturday, Oct. 9, at the Jerusalem Cemetery in Parsonsburg.
