Obituary of Edith Carol Smith

Edith Carol Smith, 85, of Salisbury, passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2020 at Coastal Hospice At The Lake. Born in Sanford, VA, she was the daughter of the late Arvandous Godwin and Mary Helen Trader Godwin. She was a member of Riverside United Methodist Church in Salisbury and worked at PRMC (PGH) as a Transporter for about 20 years. She was active in fund raising for the National Children's Cancer Society and received special recognition in 2000 & 2001. Edith was also active with caring for the Handicapped Children Eastern Shore Respite Care project. She loved to write poetry and had two poems published. She was active with the Paralyzed Veterans of the Eastern Shore and enjoyed working with Alzheimer’s patients. Edith was a very dear and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Edith is survived by two sons, James W. Smith, Jr. (Barbara) of Parsonsburg and Tommy Mears of AL; a daughter, Carol Ann Bedsworth of Princess Anne; a step-son, Steve Smith of Salisbury; three grandchildren, Mindy Smith, Jamie Fritschle (Grant) of Ocean City, Stephanie Bolden of Oriole, and Brian Smith of Millsboro, DE; a great grandchild, Aubrey Fritschle; a twin sister, Elizabeth White of Parsonsburg and another sister, Minnie Yoder of Sanford, VA; a brother, Raymond Godwin of Sanford, VA; an ex-daughter in law, Judy Scott of Salisbury; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her 1st husband, James W. Mears, Jr. (1961) and her 2nd husband, James W. Smith, Sr (1994); a son, Ronnie Mears (1985); and a brother, Arvandous Godwin, Jr. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, March 25, 2020 at 11:00 am at Wicomico Memorial Park in Salisbury with Pastor Betty Cropper officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Disabled American Veterans, Wounded Warrior Project, and or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
