Edgar Morris Swinney, Jr., 83, of Salisbury, passed away peacefully, with family, on Sunday, February 2, 2020 at the Peninsula Regional Medical Center. Born in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Edgar Morris Swinney, Sr. and Margaret Osbourne Swinney.
In his early years, Ed competed in roller dancing quite successfully before joining the military. He was very proud of his service in the U.S. Air Force and served his country during the Korean Conflict. Although he retired in 1991 from the United States Postal Service after working there for over 30 years, he continued his membership with the National Association of Letter Carriers and recently received his 50 year pin. He was also a previous member of the Moose Lodge.
Ed loved to take cruises and travel with his wife, Lil. He also enjoyed fishing with his son-in- law and gathering with family to play cards or have summer cookouts. He was an excellent craftsman and over the years remodeled several of his homes and created various wood working projects. Ed loved to enjoy a good meal and was an avid cook until his health declined.
Edgar is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Lilian Roberts Swinney; daughters, Lisa Huber (Harold Creighton Huber, deceased) of Nashville, TN, Karen Starner (Earl Wayne Starner) of Salisbury, and son Dean Swinney of Salisbury. Grandchildren, Nicholas Adam Huber (Cali Ashton Bergthold Huber), Zachary Allen Huber (Melissa Mae Ehrmann Huber), Ryan Taylor Starner, Nathaniel Aren Huber, Heather Brooke Starner, Rebekah Anne Huber, and Alec Christopher Swinney. Great Grandchildren, Eden Huber, Emma Ruth Huber, Cosette Huber, and Monroe Huber. Sisters, Betty Swinney Stallings (John J. Stallings, deceased), and Dorothy Swinney Thomsen (Peter Thomsen, deceased). Nieces, Debbie Stallings Falk, and M. Lynn Stallings Langlinais and Nephews John Stallings Jr., and Scott C. Stallings.
A private graveside memorial service with military honors will be held on Friday, February 7, 2020 with Rev. Barry Groh officiating. Flowers are being received at the Swinney home located at 6297 Ayrshire Drive, Salisbury MD 21801 or donations may be made in Ed’s honor to St. Judes.
