Obituary of Rodney Keith Sharpley

Rodney Keith Sharpley, 57, of Pocomoke City, died on, Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at PRMC. Born on July 12, 1962 in Salisbury, MD, he was the son of the late Willie Sharpley.

Rodney developed an early love for the fire service, following in his father's and brother's lead. He served in various volunteer fire departments prior to joining the Pocomoke City Vol. Fire Dept. in 1990, where he was currently serving as a Gold Badge member. He started his career with Worcester County as a Corrections Officer in 1981. He transferred to the Fire Marshall’s office in 1997, as a fire inspector and became a Deputy Fire Marshall in 2000, retiring in August of 2016 with a total of 35 years of service.

Rodney is survived by his mother, Gloria Sharpley of Virginia Beach, VA; his companion, Tracey Hicks; two sons, Rodney Keith Sharpley, Jr. and Jordan Nicholas Sharpley; one daughter, Kelly Marie Rose and her husband Brandon all of Pocomoke City, MD; two step-daughters, Chelsea Ford and Michaela Hicks; one brother, Thomas Russell Sharpley Sr. and his wife Catherine of Virginia Beach, VA; six grandchildren, Kassidy Sharpley, Joy Rhodes, Elijah Sharpley, Greyson Rose, Russell Bailey and Matthew Bailey; two nephews, Thomas R. Sharpley, Jr. and Matthew Sharpley; one niece, Sarah Sharpley and one great-nephew, Thomas R. Sharpley, III.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, October 27, 2019 at 2:00 PM in the Union United Methodist Church, Greenbackville, VA. Rev. Jack Pruitt will officiate. Interment, with firefighter's honors, will follow in the Union Greenbackville Cemetery in Stockton, MD.
