Obituary of Glenna Mae Brewster

Glenna Mae (Bolden) Brewster, of Salisbury, MD, died peacefully in her home with her loving family present on October 7, 2019. Born October 23, 1939, she was 79 years old.

Glenna was born one of 12 children in War, West Virginia. Her father, Ellis, was a coal miner. Her mother, Minnie, was a homemaker and the entire town’s surrogate Meemaw.

Glenna was a dedicated housewife and career mother to her four children until her youngest entered high school. Then, Glenna can most fondly be remembered as an employee of the Polar Bar Café on Main Street in Salisbury and then Peninsula Regional Medical Center’s Junior Board Shop.

Glenna was known for her quick wit, southern drawl, home-cooking and willingness to help everyone else before herself.  Even in illness, she maintained her joy and sense of humor.

Later in life, she taught herself to knit using a kit her husband bought her, something she was really proud of. Making scarves for friends and loved ones gave her a lot of happiness.

Glenna was preceded in death by her parents and seven of her siblings; Damon, Sabrina, Judith, Dolores, Curtis, Ernest and Robert.

She is survived by her dedicated husband of 63 years, James Elijah Brewster. She also leaves her children: James Arthur, Eva, Robert and Audrey; eight grandchildren: Paula, Robert Jr., Jose, Rhonda, Damien, Cameron, Jada and Madeline; eight great-grandchildren and countless nieces, nephews and other relatives, all treasured by her. Surviving her are also her remaining siblings: Roy, Christine, Louise and Brenda.

Glenna elected hospice services provided by Coastal Hospice and was able to celebrate her remaining time in the care and comfort of her family and the hospice staff.

Funeral Services are being handled by Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury.  A graveside service will be held at Springhill Memory Gardens in Hebron on Friday, October 11, 2019 at 10:00 am. At her request, there will be no other formal services or gatherings.

In lieu of flowers or other gifts of remembrance, please consider a donation to Coastal Hospice.
