Obituary of Ian Gregory VanGenderen

On Friday, September 27th,  Ian Gregory VanGenderen, loving Husband, Son, Brother & Friend passed away tragically at the age of 23.


Ian was born on February 14th, 1996 in Salisbury, MD, to Brian and Farah VanGenderen. He was raised on the eastern shore with his two siblings, an older brother, Zachary VanGenderen, and a younger sister, Aislyn VanGenderen. He later married Mckayla VanGenderen (formerly Devaney) on December 22nd, 2016. Ian was an Army Soldier working in the Defense Intelligence field as a Military Intelligence System Integrator.


            Ian had a naturally radiant personality. He was known for his quick wit, infectious smile and compassionate spirit. Ian had a passion for fitness, he enjoyed going to the gym and lifting weights. In his spare time he also enjoyed working on cars, listening to music and enjoying the company of those he cared for the most.


            Ian is preceded in death by his Great-Grandparents, Norma and Ivan Gibb, his Grandfather, Robert Swain and his Great-Uncle Donald Dryden. In addition to his immediate family Ian is survived by his Grandparents; Pamela Andrews, Joseph Schiller, Terry Swain, Linda & Ed Britten and David & Cheryl VanGenderen; His sister-in law, Alexis VanGenderen, Step-parent’s, Pamela Allen and Patrick Bender; and his most-precious niece Layla Brielle Joanis. Ian will be remembered by his many aunts, uncles, cousins, step-sisters, extended family and friends, along with his brothers and sisters of the military.


            A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October the 5th, 2019 at the Summer’s Gate Community Clubhouse located at 906 Turnstone Circle in Salisbury, MD from Noon-till. Honor guard will be presenting promptly at noon. Please come as you are and as you are ready. In lieu of flowers and donations- the family’s only request is that you bring your best memory of Ian or contributions to the frets4vets via facebook. Join us while we celebrate the life of our loved-one in an alcohol-free environment.
