Obituary of Mary Hooke

Mary Louise Hooke, 88, of Pittsville, passed away on Friday, November 30, 2018 at the Peninsula Regional Medical Center.  Born in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late James Howard Norris and Mary E. Hughes-Norris.

Her greatest pride and joy was her children and family, which she spent a lifetime caring for and raising.  She and her late husband, Jim, spent many winters in Key West, Florida where they enjoyed their wonderful friends and visits from family.  Mary loved to cook and bake.  Among her many delicious meals, she was best known for her family recipe of hot milk sponge cake.  She enjoyed working in her vegetable and flower gardens.  She also loved watching her many hummingbirds that provided much entertainment.

Mary is survived by five of her six children, James “Jimmy” Washington Hooke, Jr. and his wife, Terry of Baltimore, Jacqueline Tierney Cymek and her husband, Milton of Baltimore, Brian Emmett Hooke of Pittsville, Jean Hooke Sewell and her husband, Mark of Salisbury and Donavan Keith Hooke and his wife, Edie of Fruitland; five grandchildren, Jamie Matulonis of Huntingtown, Milton Cymek, III of Baltimore, Elizabeth Crofoot of Gaithersburg, Jack Sewell and Alex Sewell, both of Salisbury; and two great grandchildren, Wyatt and Garrett Matulonis both of Huntingtown.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of sixty-four years in 2012, Retired Major James Washington Hooke, Sr., USAF; a son, Howard Norris Hooke who passed this July; two brothers, James and Richard Norris; and a sister, Dorothy Foos.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Holloway Funeral Home with visitation from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.  Officiating will be Pastor Gary Stiegler.  Interment will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA, where she will rest with her late husband.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Pittsville Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 387, Pittsville, MD 21850.
