Creston S. Long Jr., 89, of Salisbury departed this life to be with his Heavenly Father on Saturday, October 6. He passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family. Creston was born in Salisbury and spent much of his childhood on a farm near Rehoboth, Maryland, in Somerset County.
He graduated from Wicomico County High School in 1948 and from State Teachers College (Salisbury University) in 1954. Creston then served as an MP in United States Army, spending most of his time in service in Albuquerque, New Mexico. After leaving the Army, he began a 35-year career as a teacher in Wicomico County Public Schools, first teaching history at Wicomico Junior High and later English at Wicomico Senior High School.
He was preceded in death by his parents Creston S. Long Sr. and Etta Gordy Long. He is survived by Margaret Bateman Long, his wife of 49 years; his children Leslie Long Mancuso (Joe), Creston S. Long, III (Caroline) and Mindy Long Craft (Jimmy); and his grandchildren Thomas, Anna, and Ellie Long, James Craft Jr., Melissa Craft, Katie McNamee, and Elyza Craft.
A memorial visitation time will occur on Sunday, October 14 from 1-2pm at Bethesda United Methodist Church, followed by a private memorial service for family at 2:30.
