Obituary of Allan Smith

Allan Dale "Smitty" Smith, 91, of Easton, passed away on Monday, August 6, 2018 peacefully at his home.  Born on September 22, 1926 in Salisbury, MD, he was the son of the late William Smith and Nannie M. Green Smith Lemon.

 

On September 27, 1943 at the age of 17, Allan entered the United States Navy, where he served during World War II in the Pacific Theater. During his time in the Navy, he trained and was on the Boxing Team. Following his military service and honorable discharge on September 16, 1947, he continued his boxing career. Allan was employed as a pressman for Salisbury Times, Baltimore Sun and most recently the Washington Post retiring after 21 years of service. Allan was an avid Baltimore Orioles Fan. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.

 

Allan is survived by three daughters, Judy Dale Henkel and her husband Ronald of Loretto, TN, Mary Ellen Forbes and her husband Marvin of Easton, MD, Kelly M.Frech and her husband Jeffrey of Lewes, DE; two sons, Richard A. Smith and his wife Elena of Easton, MD and David William Smith and his wife Patricia of Dandridge, TN; sixteen grandchildren and twenty three great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.

 

In addition to his parents, Allan was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years Peggy L.J. Smith, a daughter, Cynthia Lou McCusker; a grandson, William J. Henkel, and four brothers, William Smith, Harry Smith, Gerald Smith and Chase Smith.

 

A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 10, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Holloway Funeral Home, Salisbury.  A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.  Interment will follow at Parson's Cemetery in Salisbury, MD.
