Barbara was very active in Asbury Methodist church, where she served on many committees, and delivered mugs to many of Asbury’s visitors, so many that her son gave her the nickname, “Mug Lady”. She was at volunteer at PRMC for 23 years and loved every minute of it. She was also active in P.E.O. Sisterhood Organization for many years, attending local meetings and regional conferences.
Barbara was Never afraid to speak her mind, even during her last days, when she’d tell her family “to stop telling me what to do”, or her beloved caregiver, Evelyn Byrd, that she was “being bossy”, or letting those know who cared for her in Genesis of her displeasure.
Some of her Hobbies included-lapidary; quilting; seamstress, in which she made many of her suits that she loved to wear to church with her numerous hats, where her nickname, “The Hat Lady” came about. In addition, Barbara loved to garden and won several awards at the Wicomico County Fair.
She spent 2 years traveling the USA with her husband, Raymond Peterson in their Winnebago motorhome after selling their house and most of their belongings. She bought patches from all the places they visited and sewed them onto a jacket which she rarely wore but kept as a prize possession. After Ray’s death, she continued to travel visiting friends and family, plus several other countries.
In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution in Barbara’s honor to your charity of choice, or Asbury United Methodist Church.
