Obituary of Levin Adkins MR

Levin Ernest Adkins of Salisbury, went home to his eternal reward on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at Salisbury Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Salisbury. Born in Mardela Springs, he was the son of the late Leland Maxwell Adkins and Lola Emma Cooper Adkins. Levin was a US Army WWII 893rd tank destroyer veteran stationed in the European Theater 9 months prior to the Normandy Beach invasion continuing on to Germany. He was a tank commander in charge of his tank unit and received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He was a State Farm Insurance Agent in Salisbury for 35 years, retiring in 1983. He enjoyed traveling, which included foreign countries, with his first wife, Jean. Upon his retirement he and his second wife, Pat, enjoyed traveling in our country, Canada and spent 9 winters in their Saddlebag Lake Resort home in Lake Wales, FL. Levin like to collect unusal rocks and bells. He was a member of Living Stones Church, the Adult Sunday School class, Gideon's International Wicomico Camp, American Legion Post 237, VFW Post 8276 and AARP. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Jean Cordrey Adkins (1981); 3 brothers, Handy, Billy Max and Thomas Dale; and sister, Mary Adkins Fisher. He is survived by his second wife, Patricia "Pat" Adkins of Salisbury; 2 daughters, Betty Jean Latourney and her husband, William of Hebron and Cynthia "Cindy" McEarchern and her husband, Edger "Ed" of Salisbury; step son, David Allen Bartlett of Morgantown, WV; 2 grandsons, Joseph Lee Harris and his wife, Landra of Mardela Springs and Jeffrey Lee Harris and his wife, Teresa of Hebron; granddaughter, Amanda Jean McGown and her husband, Michael of Hampstead, MD; great grandson, Joseph "Luke" Harris, great granddaughter, Alexandra Shae Harris, both of Hebron and great granddaughter, Logan Jean Harris of Mardela Springs; 2 sisters, Hazel Marie Willing of Sharptown and Alice Lee Evans of Salisbury; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at 11:00am at the Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury with a visitation one hour prior and also on Tuesday evening from 7:00 - 9:00 pm. Interment with military honors will follow at Hebron Cemetery beside his first wife. Pastor Rick Webster will officiate. Memorial contributions can be made to Gideon's International, P.O.
