Obituary of David W Mears

David Winston Mears, 75, of Pocomoke City, died on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness. Born on December 20, 1942 in Jenkins Bridge, VA, he was a son of the late Jefferson and Virginia Holland Mears.

A 1961 graduate of Atlantic High School, he worked for the Mariner Oil Company for over 50 years, becoming an owner, following the death of Mr. and Mrs. Mariner, along with his wife Patsy and their partner, George Maddox.

David was a member of the First Baptist Church in Pocomoke City, but attended multiple churches in Pocomoke and northern Accomack County. He will be remembered by many for his acts of kindness and concern for others, more than for himself. He loved to spend time with his family, but especially loved fishing.

David is survived by his wife, who was the love of his life for more than 50 years, Patsy Lynn Mears; two brothers, Tom Mears and his wife Nancy of Princess Anne and John Mears, Sr., of Pocomoke City; one sister-in-law Anita Mears of Snow Hill; one brother-in-law, Leonard Jester of Chincoteague; very special former neighbors and longtime friends, Norman and Janet Schultz and numerous extended family members including nieces, nephews, cousins and his oil company customers, who were included in his extended family.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by a daughter, Lori Lynn Travers; one brother, Wade Mears and three sisters, Mary Grace Jester, Joanne Hickman and Jane Lang.

A graveside funeral service will be held on Friday, June 1, 2018 at 2:00 pm in the First Baptist Church Cemetery, 2240 Old Snow Hill Road, Pocomoke City, MD. Rev. Maury Enright will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, HOPE Lodge, 636 West Lexington Street, Baltimore, MD 21201.

Arrangements are in the care of Holloway Funeral Home, P.A., 107 Vine Street, Pocomoke City, MD 21851.  To send condolences to the family, please visit www.hollowayfh.com.
