Obituary of William Mortimer, Jr.

William Francis Mortimer, Jr., 96 Years, of Salisbury, passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at the Peninsula Reginal Medical Center.  Born and reared in Washington DC and attending public schools in DC, George Washington University and University of Maryland College Park, where he received a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering and a minor in Business Administration.  He was the son of the late William F. Mortimer, Sr. and Margaret O. Sanford Mortimer.

“Bill” served in the US Army & Navy and then was employed by the National Security Agency.  He also served on the Defense Industries Committee’s for configuration and control of Engineering documentation and management.  He also served on the defense agency on training and employment of Engineers and Engineering Technicians.

He volunteered with the American Red Cross for 32 years with Blood Services and for United Cerebral Palsy for 40 years.  He served as chairman for the Masons of Maryland and Prince Georges County in their Blood Services.

He was a Master Mason in 1949, a Shriner and Scottish Rite Mason for over 55 years.  A Past Master and a Past Grand Lodge officer.  He was also a member of the Elks Club of Salisbury, and Trinity United Methodist Church.

After moving from the Western Shore in 2004, both he and his late wife, Shirley were active in events and affairs of Mallard Landing Community.  He was the first president of the Men’s Club and they both enjoyed their life-style at Mallard Landing.

“Bill” is survived by 3 children, Karen Lee Mortimer of Salisbury, Lynda E. Rose of Knoxville, TN and Michael A. Mortimer of Dunein, FL; a step son, Hamilton "Buddy" Shoop of Jessup, MD; 8 grandchildren, Aimee Morton, Kimberly Branciforte, Jennifer Paige, Lucas Rose, Kathleen Headrick, James Williams, Rebekah Davis, & Adria Stone; 12 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Kathleen M. Mortimer in 1964 and his 2nd wife, Shirley Mae Mortimer in 2016; and a sister, Peggy Mortimer.

  A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at 11:00 am at the Trinity United Methodist Church with a visitation one hour prior to the service.  Officiating will be Rev. George R. Patterson and Rev. Dean DeFino.  A private inurnment will be held at a later date at the Fort Lincoln Cemetery in Brentwood, Maryland.
