Obituary of Robert Lee Akers

Robert Lee Akers, 86, of Salisbury & formerly of Montgomery County, passed away on Thursday, April 26, 2018 at his home in The Village at Harbor Pointe.  Born in Floyd, VA, he was the son of the late Guy Howard Akers and Edna Linton Reed Akers.

Often known as “Bob” and “Reds”, he was a US Army veteran and owned and operated Rockville Crane Rental for 20 years, retiring in 1988 when he sold the business and moved to Nanjemoy, MD.  He loved spending time with his family, gardening, fishing, and working in the yard.  He also enjoyed the outdoors and cheering for the Redskins.


He is survived by three children, Patricia Ann Johnson & her husband, Calvert of Elkton, MD, Lee Grier & her husband, Todd of Salisbury, Roland Bynaker & his wife, Karla of Damascus, MD; a daughter-in-law, Lorraine Bynaker of Charles Town, WV; six grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; three sisters, Ann Vaughn of VA, Peg Reed of VA, and Doretta Shorter of VA; and three sister-in-law’s, Freda Akers of VA, Helen Akers of MD and Karen Akers of WV.


In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Louise Samantha Bynaker Akers in 2013; two children, Danny M. Bynaker and Joyce L. Norton; and six siblings, Lynn Hughes, William Akers, Ray Akers, Richard Akers, Claudine Poff, and Sherl Akers.


A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 12 noon at Parklawn Memorial Park and Menorah Gardens in Rockville, MD with Rev. Wayne Parsons officiating.


In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to Disabled American Veterans, Eastern Shore #34, VFW, 106 Circle Avenue, Suite 118, Salisbury, MD 21801.
