Obituary of Alda Hunter

Alda Joyce Hunter, 85, of Powellville, died on Thursday, March 29, 2018 peacefully at PRMC in Salisbury.  Born in Powellville on April 20, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Rada Dennis Davis .


Alda grew up in Powellville, where she spent most of her life. She attended Wicomico High School. Alda was a loving and cherished person to all that knew her. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, shopping, and traveling the world with her late husband. Her life was centered around her family and all that was going on in their lives. On December 31, 1954, she married the late Douglas B. Hunter, Sr. and together they had three loving children.


Alda is survived by two daughters, Vickie Connors and her husband John of Pittsville and Marlene Bradford and her husband Jay of Newark, MD; a son, Douglas B. Hunter Jr. and his wife Susan of Powellville; five grandchildren: Krista Baker Brown, Diana Lewis, Brian Hunter, Steven Hunter, Alex Bradford; 5 great grandchildren: Blaire Beaver and her husband Nick, Rylee Baker, Abigail Griffin, Lily Hunter, and Ayden Hunter; two brothers Richard Davis and his wife Edwina and Allan Davis and his wife Joan, a sister in law Louise Davis,  as well as several nieces and nephews.


In addition to her parents, Alda was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Douglas Bruce Hunter, Sr., who passed away on October 29, 2014; a brother Grover Davis and a sister Marian Taylor.


A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 2, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Holloway Funeral Home.  Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Powellville U.M. Church Cemetery in Powellville, MD.


In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Alda's honor to Powellville United Methodist Church or Powellville Fire Department.
