Obituary of Roger Webster
Roger Lawrence Webster of Salisbury Maryland died on Sunday, February 25, 2018 at his home. He was born on March 5, 1930, in Deal Island, Maryland. He was the son of the late Carl and Beatrice Webster.
Mr. Webster was a graduate of Deal Island High School and after graduation he was a member of the United States Army serving in Germany at the end of World War II. When he returned from his time in the armed services he worked in the dry cleaning business and later as a master carpenter and cabinet maker as well as an accomplished artist who constructed precise wooden scale models of skip-jacks and other sailing vessels of the Chesapeake Bay. He was a gifted artisan and many homes and businesses on the Eastern Shore feature his fine craftsmanship. Roger Webster was a devout Christian who spent much time worshiping in church and studying his “gently worn” Bible. He could quote endless scriptures and he often spoke of his love for his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He lived each and every day of his life based upon his creed that “Jesus died for me, and I live for him.”
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Iris M. Webster , his second wife Joyce W. Webster of forty years, a sister Elizabeth Andrew of Salisbury and brothers Walter Webster of Deal Island, Albert Webster of Towson, Lloyd Webster of Salisbury, Carl Webster of Salisbury, and Wesley Webster of Princess Anne . Roger is survived by brothers Mark Webster and his wife Anna of Deal Island, Charles Webster of Pocomoke, Wayne Webster of Princess Anne, and sisters Fannie May Taylor of Salisbury, Diane Powell and her partner Lee Vincent of Salisbury, Ruth Twining of Princess Anne, and Ruby Ring of Westover as well as many loving nieces and nephews. In addition, Mr. Webster is survived by his three stepsons and their families, Bruce K. Widdowson and wife Pat of Pilot Mountain, NC and their children Seth of Charlotte, NC and Hannah and her husband Gus Porter of Winston Salem, NC; Dirk W. Widdowson and wife Gayle of Bishopville, MD and their children Austin of Berlin, MD, Colin and his wife Kelly of Concord, CA, and Sally and her husband Bryce Colwell of Oakland, CA; Blake R. Widdowson and his wife Anna of Richmond, VA and their children Cory of Richmond, VA and Haley of Fairfax, VA. In addition, he is survived by four great grandchildren, Skylar, Willow, Barrett and Miles.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Holloway Funeral Home, with viewing from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Bryan Phillips will officiate. Burial will be at Wicomico Memorial Gardens immediately following the service.
