Obituary of Elizabeth Hamilton

Elizabeth (Liz) Hamilton, 75, died February 8 at Coastal Hospice At The Lake.  Born in Alexandria, Virginia to the late Sarah F. and William F. Slater, she lived and attended school in Annandale.


She graduated from the University of Tennessee with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a Master of Science in Library and Information Science.   Her library career spanned over forty years of success in school, public, academic and government libraries in Virginia, North Carolina, Washington, D.C. and Delaware.  She served as President of the Virginia Library Association in1993.  She retired as Director of the Frankford (DE) Public Library in 2013 after opening a renovated and expanded library building and expanding programs, outreach and service delivery.


She loved reading, the beach, travel, rescuing dogs and cats, playing Words With Friends online, good food and good times with friends and family. And life itself.


Her husband Tom Hehman and her son from a previous marriage Marc Hamilton, of Huddleston Virginia, stepsons Matthew Hehman of Baltimore, Maryland and Christopher Hehman of Durham, North Carolina, survive her. Another son, Todd Hamilton, preceded her in death.


A Memorial Service will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church in Salisbury on Saturday, February 24 at 2:00 p.m., with visitation at the church at 1:00 and a reception to follow the service.
