Obituary of Thomas Lyons
Thomas Charles Lyons, 89, of Salisbury, MD died November 19, 2017 at his home. He was born on February 4, 1928, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Thomas George and Margaret Lyons. He was an only child and lived in Audubon, New Jersey.
He obtained two college degrees. The first, a Bachelor Science degree from Drexel Institute of Technology in Chemical Engineering, in June, 1949. The second was a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Rutgers University in 1960.
On June 15, 1951, he married Shirley Elizabeth Middleton, of Audubon, New Jersey.
He served in the U.S. Army at a Lieutenant during the Korean War and later achieved the rank of Captain. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal with three combat stars, the United Nations Service Medal, and the American Defense Service Medal.
After his military service, he began a 35-year career with Mobil Oil as a Chemical Engineer. The family lived in New Jersey, Colorado, Connecticut, and Virginia. He retired in 1989 as a Director of Environmental Affairs.
He loved his family and enjoyed extensive travels throughout the world. His additional interests included photography, music, sailing, boating, camping and travel throughout the United States. He was an active member of the Vienna, Virginia Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Shirley Elizabeth Lyons of Salisbury, his son and daughter-in-law, Thomas J and Pamela Lyons of Vancouver, WA; grandsons Jeffrey Lyons of Boise, ID; Grant Lyons of Auburn, WA; his daughter and son-in-law, Nance and Jeffrey Hall, of Ocean Pines, and daughter Linda Lyons of Salisbury, and grandson Michael Martone, of Parsonsburg.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, December 3, 2017 at 3:30 pm in the Library at Lakeside of Mallard Landing, Salisbury, MD. A visitation will be held from 3 pm to 3: 30 pm.
