Obituary of John Griffith
John "Jack" J. Griffith, Jr., 69, of Salisbury, died on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury. Born on December 28, 1947 in Salisbury, he was the son of Sarah J. Griffith of Parsonsburg and the late John J. Griffith, Sr.
Jack was a devoted member of the Salisbury Lions Club where he held numerous positions including Past President. He was recently awarded the Arnolds Patz Award for his work with the sight and hearing programs. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 64, Salisbury VFW Post 194 and the National Rifle Association.
He served in the United States Army January 8, 1968 - December 24, 1969 during the Vietnam War. Jack's cancer was caused by his exposure of Agent Orange from his time in Vietnam. Following his discharge from the Army, he returned to work for J. Roland Dashiell & Sons as a Superintendent. Later, he worked as a Superintendent for Nason Construction. Jack loved to build furniture.
In addition to his father, he preceded in death by a brother Michael David Griffith.
Jack is survived by his wife of 47 years, Linda Griffith of Salisbury; two sons, Robert Meilhammer of Salisbury and Bryan Griffith and his wife Jennie of Delmar; his mother, Sarah J. Griffith of Parsonsburg; seven grandchildren, Julian Adkins, Maggie Meilhammer, Davis Meilhammer, Bryan Griffith, Jr., Calvin Griffith, Caleb Bowling, Alaina Bowling; two brothers, William Griffith and his wife Donna of LA and Jerry Griffith and his wife Lydia of PA; a sister, Candace Smith and her husband Donnie of Delmar; a sister-in-law, Kathy Griffith of Eden; an aunt, Margie Kulp of PA and numerous nieces, nephews, family members and a host of friends.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at 1:00 PM at Holloway Funeral Home, Salisbury. A visitation will be held from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM prior to the service. Pastor Phil Timmons will officiate. Burial will be in Springhill Memory Gardens near Hebron.
