Obituary of Sarah Thrash

Sarah “Sally” McAllister Thrash, 83, of Salisbury, died on Thursday, February 22, 2018, at Coastal Hospice at the Lake.  Born on June 23, 1934 in Washington, DC, she was the daughter of the late Addams Stratton and Homé Stephens McAllister.


For many years she was "The Story Lady" at area schools where she recited stories and poems with puppets.  She reviewed children's books for The Horn Book and was a Girl Scout Troop Leader. Sally collected and created dollhouse miniatures, enjoyed embroidery and water aerobics.  She and her husband took many trips to Britain to visit friends and enjoy the countryside.


Sally was an active member at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Salisbury where she sang in the choir, served on the Altar Guild and in the Comforters prayer group. She retired as the Director of the Seaford District Library in Seaford, DE. She was a lifetime member of the Alumni Associations of both James Madison University and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.


Sally is survived by her daughter, Monica C. Thrash of Salisbury; her son, MAJ Christopher B. Thrash and his wife Sherry of Flagstaff, AZ; one grandson, 1LT Bennett JF Thrash; one brother, A. Stratton McAllister, Jr.; two sisters, Homé M. Reitwiesner and Lydia M. Mefford; and several nieces and nephews.


In addition to her parents, Sally is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, James R. Thrash and a sister, Judy M. French.


A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 26, 2018 at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Salisbury.  Friends may call one hour prior to the service.


In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Sally's name to the Boys Home of Virginia,, 414 Boys Home Road, Covington, VA, 24426.
