Obituary of Betty Hamblin

Betty Louise Hamblin, 80, of Parsonsburg, passed away on Sunday, December 31, 2017 surrounded by her family at Coastal Hospice at the Lake, after a courageous battle with kidney cancer.  Born in Wilmington, DE, she was the daughter of the late William Ernest Stark, Sr. and Ethel Winant Stark, and former wife of the late, Lawrence Hamblin.


She worked for the Wicomico County Board of Education for 36 years as a kindergarten teacher at Beaver Run Elementary School. Betty was recognized as the Wicomico Elementary Teacher of the Year during the 1985-86 school year. She retired in 2001.  Following this, she worked at Salisbury University supervising interns for 15 years, until 2016.  She loved cooking, antiques, auctions, reading, learning new things and spending time with her family and friends.


Betty is survived by a daughter, Barbara Lee Jackson (Gary) of Hebron; a son, L. Scott Hamblin of Bridgeville, DE; four grandchildren, Jamie Jackson (Lindsey) of Salisbury, Conner Jackson (Jessica) of Hebron, Brittany Squire (Ryan) of Gobles, MI, and Sarah Jackson (fiancé - Brooks Bowden) of Salisbury; 6 great grandchildren, Autumn, Emma, Hunter, Kolton, Kinleigh, and Caiden; a brother, William E. Stark, Jr. (Sandy) of Lincolnton, NC; her life-long companion, Ray Jones; and two nieces and one nephew.


A Celebration of Her Life will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2018, 11:00 am at the Holloway Funeral Home with a visitation one hour prior to the service.  Officiating will be Rev. Benita Harris.


In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore, 1324 Belmont Ave., Suite 401, Salisbury, MD 21804. In honor of Betty’s lifelong devotion to teaching, contributions will provide funding for the Community Foundations local education programs, Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802 or the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 163, Salisbury, MD 21801.
