Obituary of Dorothy Williams

Dorothy Dalice Bragg Williams passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home in Salisbury, Maryland on December 17, 2017 at the age of 101. She was the daughter of the late Herman and Xena Bragg. Dalice, as she preferred to be called, was born in New Franklin, Missouri on August 3rd, 1916. The oldest of three siblings, she grew up on a farm in Huntsville, Missouri, where she rode her own horse to school.

After high school, she attended Stephens College and graduated with an associate arts degree, an uncommon achievement for a woman in the 1930s. While at Stephens College, Dalice met Charles, a student at University of Missouri. They fell in love, married, and moved to Silver Spring, Maryland—where Charles later completed his PhD. They moved to Bridgeville, Delaware when Charles was offered a job at O.A. Newton, and then to Salisbury, Maryland in the late 1980s. Dalice loved being a stay-at-home mother and homemaker, and enjoyed living a happy and quiet life with her friends and family. Incredibly, Dalice still drove her own car, and her own grocery shopping until the age of 94.

Dalice is survived by her son: Charles K. Williams, and his wife, Brenda; three grand-children: Lynne Leidy and her husband Garner; Heather Barton; and Jason Williams and his wife Heather, and three great-grandchildren: Morgan, Skylar, and Jackson Leidy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles S. Williams; her sister, Betty Youngberg; and her brother, Dick.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in the memory of Dalice to Christ United Methodist Church, 211 Phillip Morris Drive, Salisbury, MD 21804-1923 or Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802-1733.

Funeral Services for Dalice will be held on Friday, December 22, 2017 at 11 am at the Holloway Funeral Home with Rev. Thomas McKelvey officiating. Interment will follow at Wicomico Memorial Park. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
