Iris Arlene Hudson, 78, of Pittsville, passed away on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at Anchorage Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Salisbury. Born on March 4, 1940 in Berlin, MD, she was the daughter of the late Virgil Kilgore and Virginia Taylor.
Iris graduated as valedictorian of the first graduating class from Stephen Decauter High School. She was employed as a secretary for Berlin Milling Company for a number of years until she became a stay at home mother to her two children. At the age of 4 years old, she lost her eye sight in one of her eyes due to an accident. Despite her blindness, Iris was an avid reader and often read 15 to 20 novels each week. She enjoyed politics, cooking, baking, crocheting, knitting, and quilting. She was also an avid, prolific, family historian and compiled 4 family histories , long before there was an internet.
Iris is survived by two sons, Eric Hudson, Sr. and his companion Joanne of Pittsville and John Hudson of Millsboro; three grandsons, Eric Hudson, Jr., Adam Hudson, Sr. of both of Lakeland, FL, and Nicholas Hudson of Pittsville; a granddaughter, Alexea M. Hudson of Hanover, PA; five great-grandsons, Adam Hudson, Jr., Jessie Hudson, Devin Hudson, Angel Hudson, and Ashton Hudson; two great-granddaughters, Mayce Hudson and Marissa Hudson; as well as many other loving relatives.
In addition to her parents, Iris was preceded in death by her husband, John R. Hudson and a daughter, Faye Hudson.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, April 9, 2018 at 1:00 pm at Sunset Memorial Park in Berlin with the Reverend Edward Townsend.
