Nina Alice Payne Silverthorne, 98, of Pocomoke City, died peacefully on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at Hartley Hall Nursing Home. Born on January 19, 1920 in Pocomoke City, MD, she was a daughter of the late Brinkman and Mae Leona Pruitt Payne.
Nina was an active member of Salem United Methodist church, serving in the United Methodist Women and was a member of the Philathia Sunday School Class. She worked at Mason Canning, Weidema's Laundromat and at Scher's for at least 20 years. She was a fifty year member and past president of the Pocomoke City Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary. In earlier years she enjoyed boating and fishing with her husband and was an active bowler at Eastern Shore Lanes.
Nina is survived by her daughter, Peggy S. Pilchard and her husband Eugene; two grandsons David Pilchard (Vonny) and Derek Pilchard (Ruth Ann); two great grandsons, Bradley Pilchard (Samantha) and Wesley Pilchard (Sara); one great-great granddaughter, Harlee Pilchard and her mother Nichole all of Pocomoke City, MD; one brother, Vaughn (Viola) Payne of Fruitland, MD; sister-in-law, (who was more like a sister) Audrey S. Holland (Franklin) of Greenbackville, VA and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents Nina was is preceded in death by husband Benjamin R. Silverthorne, Jr., and eleven brothers and sisters.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 11:00 am at Salem United Methodist Church, Pocomoke City. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Rev. Brian Albert will officiate. Burial will follow in the Beth Eden Tilghman Hill Cemetery in Pocomoke City, MD.
