Margaret Jackson Hayman, 83, passed away on Thursday, January 18th, at Coastal Hospice at the Lake. Born in Hebron, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late William Wilmer Jackson and Elizabeth Ellis Jackson.
After graduating from Hebron High School, she attended Strayer Business College in Washington D.C. before marrying her high school sweetheart, Charles S. Hayman Jr. She performed secretarial and bookkeeping duties for many local businesses before concentrating her time on family and the family-run u-pick farming operation, where she was affectionately known as “Mama Strawberry.”
She was also recognized as a wonderful cook and volunteered for many years at the Hebron Volunteer Fire Department catering banquets, before she branched off into catering private events, with wedding cakes as her specialty.
Margaret has been a member of St. Paul’s Methodist Church in Hebron, Emmanuel Wesleyan Church in Salisbury and most recently, Rockawalkin United Methodish Church in Hebron.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Charles; her son, Stanley R. Hayman, (Cindy); her daughter Jane Hayman Bratten, (Bruce); four grandchildren, Brian Bratten (Summer), Sheppard Bratten, Ashley Hayman and Allison Hayman; three great grandchildren, Cadence Edens, Syndey Edens and Maximus Bratten: one brother, Kenneth Jackson (Joyce) and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her youngest brother, Dean Ellis Jackson.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 26, 2018 at 7:00 PM at Holloway Funeral Home, Salisbury. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
