Fred G. Livingood, Jr. 91 of Salisbury, MD, former educator in the public schools of Baltimore County, Worcester County and Wicomico County for forty years died on January 9, 2018 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury He was preceded in death by this wife, Clara S. Livingood following forty-nine years of marriage, a great-granddaughter, Lila C. Mumford, and a brother Dr. John K. Livingood, formally of Herdon, VA.
Surviving are one daughter, Rebecca L. Mumford and her husband, James R. Mumford Jr. of Salisbury, MD, and one son, Frederick (Rick) G. Livingood III and his wife, JoAnn L. Livingood currently residing in Shanghai, China. Also surviving are grandchildren, James F. Mumford Sr. and Specialist Jeremy M. Mumford of Salisbury, Christine L. Milkowski and her husband, Matthew T. Milkowski, of Chicago, IL, Jennifer A. Weaver and her husband, Christopher P. Weaver, of Reisterstown, MD and Katherine M. Livingood of Baltimore, MD, great-grandchildren: Amiah L. Mumford, James F. Mumford, Jr., Skye R. Mumford, Connor J. Mumford and Ellie G. Mumford, all of Salisbury, MD, and Addison A. Weaver and Cameron P. Weaver of Reisterstown, MD, as well as Veda L. Milkowski and Owen G. Milkowski of Chicago, IL.
Fred G. Livingood was born in Myerstown, Lebanon County, PA on July 7, 1926. He was the son of Dr. and Mrs. Frederick Livingood. Dr. Livingood was a former professor of Education and Psychology and served as Dean and Acting President of Washington College, in Chestertown, Maryland. Fred Livingood received his education in the public schools of Chestertown, MD, and graduated from Washington College “cum laude” in 1947. He received his Master’s degree in Education from Harvard University. He completed additional graduate studies at Harvard University, University of Colorado, University of Delaware, University of Maryland, University of Tennessee, Salisbury University and Morgan State College. Mr. Livingood taught senior high school science and mathematics in Baltimore County, was Supervisor of Instruction in Worcester County, and held numerous administrative positions in Wicomico County. He retired as Assistant Superintendent of Wicomico County Schools in 1988. Prior to his retirement, he spent forty years in education. As a youth, Mr. Livingood was an active member of the Boy Scouts and an Eagle Scout with Palms. Mr. Livingood served as a counselor at Camp Rodney, Northeast, Maryland for about ten years and as Assistant Scout Master in Baltimore County. Mr. Livingood served as President of the Wicomico County Chapter of AARP. He was a member of St. Francis de Sales Church of Salisbury and served on the Finance Committee. He was also a member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church of Ocean City, MD. He served as a Eucharistic Minister for St. Luke’s and St. Francis Catholic churches and provided pastoral care at Salisbury Regional Medical Centers and Assistant Living Facilities. As a young adult, he was an active member of the Methodist Youth Fellowship Church in Chestertown, MD. After his retirement, he and his wife resided at home in Salisbury. He also resided at Atria Assisted Living and Lakeside Assistant Living, where he was active in daily functions to promote enjoyable activities for the residents and served as a Resident Ambassador at both. In retirement, Mr. Livingood enjoyed traveling and traveled extensively throughout the United States, North and South America, Europe and Asia, plus many Caribbean islands during cruises. Mr. Livingood also enjoyed tracing the ancestry of his family tree and history back to year 1200.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Salisbury, MD, on Monday, January 15, 2018 at 11:00 am with burial at Wicomico Memorial Park Cemetery. A prayer service and visitation will be held, Sunday, January 14, 2018 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at the Holloway Funeral Home.
