George C. Butler, Sr., 90, of Pocomoke City, died peacefully on Wednesday, January 10, 2018, at his home. Born on December 26, 1927 in Marion, he was the son of the late Walter Morrison Butler, Sr. and Lillie Mae Tull Butler.
He was member of Bethany United Methodist Church for over fifty years. George enlisted in the navy at the age of 17; he served from 1944 to 1946 during WWII as a Signalman. After his service he started his 42 year career as an agent with State Farm Insurance. George was a member of the Pocomoke and Manokin Masonic Lodge and was a 32nd degree Mason and Past Master. In addition, he was a past member the Elks Club, VFW Post 93 and the American Legion.
George is survived by two sons, George Coulbourne Butler Jr. and Greg Scott Butler and his wife Gina; one daughter, Terri Butler Jackson and her husband Stanley; five grandchildren, Matthew Jackson and his wife Rachel, Logan Butler, Lexi Butler, Sarah Butler, and Brian Butler; two sisters Betty and Jane Butler, a brother Charles Lankford Butler and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Joyce Cattermole Butler; a brother Walter Morrison Butler, Jr. and a sister June Butler Utkewitz .
A Memorial Service, officiated by Rev. Brian Albert and Rev. Dr. Sally Dolch, will be held on Sunday, January 14, 2017 at 2:00 PM, at the Holloway Funeral Home in Pocomoke City, where family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service. Interment will be private.
The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Rose, Esther, Lana, Andrew, Sugar, and Sam all of whom assisted in the care of George.
