**SERVICE HAS BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL MONDAY DUE TO WEATHER**
Ellen Duncan Barnes, fondly known by “Ellen Gay” by her many friends and family, 81, died on Monday, January 1, 2018 at her Pocomoke City home, following a courageous battle against cancer. Born on May 2, 1936 in Crisfield, MD, she was the daughter of the late, Lynwood and Ruth Cox Duncan.
She attended Pocomoke High School prior to graduating in 1954 from Fairfax Hall in Waynesboro, VA. As a young adult she enjoyed riding and showing horses and was active in school sports. She attended Western Maryland College where she met Charles David "Dave" Barnes and they were married on June 25, 1955. Ellen was active in several organizations, including the Pocomoke Elks Auxiliary, Pocomoke City Junior Women's Club, D.A.R., Nassawango Nine Hole Ladies Golf Association, local bridge clubs, Pocomoke Elks Bingo nights and several local and traveling bowling leagues. Ellen made many lifelong friends and loved them all dearly.
Ellen is survived by her husband of 62 years, Dave Barnes; her son, Chuck Barnes and his wife Pam and her only grandson, Dylan T. Barnes all of Pocomoke City and her daughter, Lynn Barnes of Salisbury, MD.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by many aunts and uncles.
A funeral service, officiated by the Rev. Chuck Taber, will be held on Friday, January 5, 2018 at 11:00 am at the Holloway Funeral Home, P.A. in Pocomoke City where family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in First Baptist Church Cemetery in Pocomoke City, MD.
